Sea Kayaking
Welcome to our watery World!
Sea caves, limestone stacks, surf, natural rock bridges, rips, reef stranded cargo ships, tiny offshore islands. These are just some of the things we encounter on our sea kayak trips. The south west coast of Cyprus around Paphos is perfect for a canoe trip with a whole range of different features and conditions for every one to enjoy.
We have a range of trips to choose from all priced at CyŁ24-00 / €41-01 per person.
Our classic Sea Caves tour is the most popular. We drive a short distance to a secluded natural bay. Here we launch and go through some of the basics for beginners. We need to make sure every body can control their boat safely while having fun so we put you through a series of fun games and challenges to test your boat control and eagerness to get wet! Now the tour can begin. We leave the bay and head along the rocky coast to an area of amazing limestone erosion that has formed stacks and arches that we paddle through and it's here that you can try your luck in the 'Washing Machine', a deceptive rotational current that will have you pointing every direction but forwards! From here we paddle on to the sea caves, an impressive series of wet caves an average of 30 meters long. We paddle right inside about half a dozen of the caves and explore many features. These features give the caves their names, so you can visit 'Jonah', 'Purple Haze', 'Standing Room Only' and 'The Big One', to name a few. These caves are only accessible by kayak so we will have them all to ourselves!
After the caves we head about 1 kilometer off shore into very deep water and then make our way back to the bay we started in, passing on the way, a tiny uninhabited island which sees many interesting sea birds roosting on it's rocky out crops. A close lap of the island finishes the tour. Relax afterwards with a swim or some time on the beach. Suitable for all ages/abilities but is subject to sea/weather conditions. Contact us.
Our sunset paddle is also very popular. Leaving two hours before the end of day, we paddle along the coast to visit a few of the features explored in our Sea Caves trip. The highlight though, comes when we paddle around the back of the small island and head further out to sea in a westerly direction. Just before the sun touches the sea we stop, lay back and relax as the sun sets over the Mediterranean. We sit and chat for a while as everybody unwinds with the most beautiful back drop. Then as the last oranges and blues fade from the surface of the calm water, we slowly head back to shore in gentle darkness. Suitable for all ages/abilities but is subject to sea/weather conditions. Contact us.
Canoe or kayak? An open boat, powered with a one ended paddle is generally called a canoe. (Canadians use these.) An open or closed boat, within which you sit, powered by a two ended paddle is usually called a kayak! (the type Eskimos use.) The word 'canoe', however, is generally used to refer to both types of boat and to the whole sport in general. i.e. to spend time 'canoeing'. Strictly speaking, though, many people who think they have been canoeing, have in fact been kayaking! Does that make sense? At Zephyros, we use open top, self bailing sea kayaks.
