     Trekking

Welcome to our sure footed World!

Because of the hot Summer weather, we tend to do most of our walking tours during the Autumn, Winter and Spring. This is an advantage for us as fewer visitors come to Cyprus at these times, leaving the trails almost deserted! We offer two classic, full day treks. Contact us for more details.

Akamas Trails

This day combines the study of past geological events with their effect on today's landscape and environments. We aim to show you, for example, how ancient sea level changes affect today's agriculture and how Ice Ages even affect the landscape in Cyprus today and the types of habitats found here. Our first destination is Cape Lara which plays an important role in the life cycle of the nesting Green and Loggerhead Turtles. We spend time visiting their nesting sites and discussing their interaction with local ecosystems. The trek continues to the very tip of the cape to look at a series of modern sea caves and the nearby, collapsed, ancient cave remains that we are currently studying. Our final goal here is to look at how tourism affects Lara both positively and negatively. 6 kilometers done, now time for lunch. Fed and watered, we now head to the Avakas Gorge for a 4 kilometer linear trip into the impressive limestone feature at the Southern edge of the Akamas Park. Here we observe giant fruit bats, reptiles, stream flora and erosion processes that shape this landscape.

As with most of our activities, a minimum number of only TWO people is required for this trip. The price is CyŁ18-00 / 30-75 per person including cold weather clothing (as appropriate), safety equipment for the gorge (helmets etc.) and lunch. Transport is FREE. Contact us for more details.

High Troodos

Leaving your hotel in Paphos at 8 o'clock we take a winding, scenic drive up to the heights of the Troodos National Park. Our first stop is the Troodos Visitor Centre where we show you a short film explaining the geological origins of Cyprus, detailing many of the plants and animals we are likely to see during our day in the park. We then drive on to the summit of Mt. Olympus, the highest part of Cyprus. From here, on a clear day we are able to see the Atlas Mountains in Southern Turkey! The first of the day's two routes starts here on Olympus, a 7 kilometer circular trek around the summit, following the 1800 meter contour. Black and Brutia Pine, rare herbs, ancient Venetian walls, globally important geology and soaring birds of prey are all to be experienced on this trail. Not to mention a constant, stunning view from almost two kilometers above sea level. The trek finishes at the ski club shelter were we have lunch. The afternoon finds us on the trail to the Caledonia Falls. A 5 kilometer linear route winding along a stream bed up to the impressive falls. Take a shower under the falls to freshen up or photograph the rare mountain plants that grow nearby!

As with most of our activities, a minimum number of only TWO people is required for this trip. The price is CyŁ20-00 / 34-30 per person including cold weather clothing (as appropriate) and lunch. Transport is FREE. Contact us for more details.

Please note, many 'Jeep Safari' tours visit these areas and provide an excellent service. We do NOT provide Jeep Safaris but can recommend many of the excellent companies that do. Contact us for more details.

All of our hiking customers are required to wear appropriate safety helmets when trekking in the gorges. We provide these free of charge.
